Introduction
Kansas is a state in the Midwestern United States. The state is named after the Kansas River, which flows through it. The river was named by French explorers after the Kansas tribe, who lived along its banks.
Kansas is bordered by Nebraska to the north, Missouri to the east, Oklahoma to the south, and Colorado to the west. The state’s capital is Topeka and its largest city is Wichita.
KS is one of the thirteen states that make up the so-called Dust Bowl, an area of the Great Plains that was severely affected by drought and dust storms during the 1930s.

The Temperature in Kansas Next Year
The average temperature in Kansas next year is expected to be lower than it has been in the past, according to a new study.
Researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) say that the state’s average temperature will be about two degrees Fahrenheit below the 20th-century average.
The cooler temperatures are expected to be caused by a La Niña weather pattern, which typically brings cooler and wetter conditions to the U.S. Midwest and Plains states.
“We expect La Niña to influence winter weather across much of the United States, bringing colder-than-normal temperatures to the northern states and above-normal precipitation across the southern tier of states,” said Mike Halpert, deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.
Halpert said that while it’s too soon to say exactly how much cooler it will be in Kansas next year, he noted that La Niña conditions have brought cooler-than-normal winters to the state in the past.
“For example, during the 2011-2012 La Niña winter, Kansas had its 11th coolest winter on record,” he said. “And in 2009-2010, another La Niña winter, Kansas had its 14th coolest winter on record.”
