The Kansas City Chiefs began their 2017 season with high hopes. After finishing the 2016 season with a 12-4 record, the team was poised to make a run at the Super Bowl.

The 2019 Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise’s 50th season in the National Football League, their 60th overall and their first under head coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs entered the season as the defending AFC champions, having defeated the Indianapolis Colts in the 2018 AFC Championship Game. They failed to repeat as conference champions, losing to the New England Patriots in overtime in the AFC Championship Game. With a record of 12–4, they also failed to match their franchise-best record from last season. They did, however, improve upon their divisional record from last year (9–3) by going 6–0 against AFC West opponents.

The Chiefs got off to a hot start, winning their first five games of the season. One of those wins included a come-from-behind victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football in Week 4, in which they overcome a 24-point deficit to win 34-30, marking the largest deficit overcome for a road team in NFL history. The next week, they obliterated divisional foe Oakland Raiders 40-9 on Thursday Night Football. This was followed by a wire-to-wire 37-21 win over Houston Texans, who were coming off a 10-win 2018 campaign. In Week 8, the Chiefs won their fifth straight game by defeating Green Bay Packers 31-24 on Sunday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice by cornerback Charvarius Ward; one of those interceptions was returned 46 yards for a touchdown by Bashaud Breeland in the second quarter which put Kansas City up 14-7.

Post-season

In 2019, the Kansas City Royals made it to the post-season for the first time since winning the World Series in 2015. They played the Houston Astros in the ALDS, but lost in Game 5.
