Andy Reid’s Early Life
Andy Reid was born on March 19, 1958, in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of Elizabeth Ann and Walter Reid, who worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Rams. Reid played football and basketball growing up and attended John Marshall High School.

Andy Reid’s parents, Walter and Elizabeth, were both teachers in the public school system of Pipe Creek, Texas. His father also coached high school football, which exposed young Andy to the game at an early age. When he was just five years old, his family moved to Creston, Iowa, where he would spend the rest of his childhood. It was in Creston that Reid first began to play organized football.

Andy Reid has six siblings. His oldest brother, Garrett, is a former NFL tight end and assistant coach who is currently the head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). His other brothers are John, Elvis, and Jason. Reid’s sister, Tammy Ann, died in 1973 at the age of 13 after a long battle with leukemia. Reid’s younger sister, Christy Osborn, is a former professional tennis player.

Andy Reid played football, basketball, and baseball at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles. Reid was a two-time All-City selection in football, and was also named to the All-Conference and All-Area teams. As a senior, he helped lead John Marshall to the city championship game.

Andy Reid played college football at Brigham Young University from 1978 to 1980 under head coach LaVell Edwards. As a senior, he was voted the WAC Defensive Player of the Year. He is the only player in BYU history to be named a first-team All-American twice.

During his time at Bridgeton High School, Reid played quarterback and was a standout athlete. He then went on to play collegiately at Glen Mills School in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. In January of 2003, Reid was hired as the head coach of the Eagles and served in that role for thirteen seasons. Andy’s father, Wallace, played football for the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. His uncle, Dick, also played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Andy Reid’s wife, Tammy, is a former Eagles cheerleader. The couple met while Reid was working as an assistant coach for the Brigham Young University football team. They have three children together: sons Spencer and Garrett, and daughter Britt. Garrett played football at the University of Virginia, while Britt works as a teacher.
