The following week, against the top-seeded Patriots, he helped secure a 38–31 overtime victory after completing a 76-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill that sent the game into overtime; this was both the longest touchdown throw of his career and first time he had ever thrown an overtime touchdown. Mahomes then led his team to a berth in Super Bowl LIII after defeating the second-seeded Los Angeles Rams in overtime by a score of 30–27, throwing for one touchdown and running for another.
