2. Pass the state examination. After you have completed your pre-licensing education requirements, you must pass the Kansas appraiser examination with a score of 70% or higher. The exam consists of two parts: a general knowledge exam and a USPAP exam.
3. Apply for a provisional license. Once you have passed the state examination, you must submit a completed Application for Appraiser License, along with the required fees, to the Kansas Real Estate Commission. A provisional license will allow you to begin working as an appraiser in Kansas while completing the experience requirements for a certified license.
4. Complete the experience requirements. In order to obtain a certified appraiser license in Kansas, you must complete 2,000 hours of qualifying experience within a 24-month period. Qualifying experience must be either: (a) trainee experience under the supervision of a licensed appraiser; or (b) professional appraisal experience as verified by certification forms completed by clients or employers. You must also complete 30 hours of continuing education during each 24-month period in order to maintain your certified license status.
