How to Become an Appraiser in Kansas
In order to become an appraiser in the state of Kansas, you must complete the following steps:
1. Complete the pre-licensing education requirements. All applicants for a Kansas real estate appraiser license must complete 75 hours of pre-licensing education from an Approved Education Provider, which must include the 15-hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course.
2. Pass the state examination. After you have completed your pre-licensing education requirements, you must pass the Kansas appraiser examination with a score of 70% or higher. The exam consists of two parts: a general knowledge exam and a USPAP exam.
3. Apply for a provisional license. Once you have passed the state examination, you must submit a completed Application for Appraiser License, along with the required fees, to the Kansas Real Estate Commission. A provisional license will allow you to begin working as an appraiser in Kansas while completing the experience requirements for a certified license.
4. Complete the experience requirements. In order to obtain a certified appraiser license in Kansas, you must complete 2,000 hours of qualifying experience within a 24-month period. Qualifying experience must be either: (a) trainee experience under the supervision of a licensed appraiser; or (b) professional appraisal experience as verified by certification forms completed by clients or employers. You must also complete 30 hours of continuing education during each 24-month period in order to maintain your certified license status.
Appraiser Qualifications
There is no state specific license to become an appraiser in Kansas. However, the state is a member of the Appraisal Qualifications Board, which means that appraisers must meet certain qualifications in order to be certified.
The Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) has set minimum education, experience, and examination requirements for real property appraisers in the US. In order to become a licensed or certified appraiser, you must:

-Have a high school diploma or equivalent
-Complete the prescribed coursework and/or experience requirements
-Pass the AQB qualifying exam

Appraiser Licensing and Certification
In order to become an appraiser in the state of Kansas, you must meet the following requirements:
• You must be at least 18 years of age
• You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
• You must complete an approved pre-licensing education course consisting of at least 75 hours OR hold a bachelor’s degree in any field PLUS complete an approved 15-hour USPAP course
• You must pass the Kansas State and National examinations
• You must submit a completed application for licensure and pay the required fees
Once you have met all of the above requirements and been issued your license, you will need to complete continuing education (CE) courses annually in order to keep your license active. The CE requirements for appraisers in Kansas are as follows:
• Certified Residential Appraisers: must complete 28 hours of CE every two years, including 7 hours of USPAP
• Certified General Appraisers: must complete 30 hours of CE every two years, including 7 hours of USPAP
Appraiser Continuing Education
In order to renew your appraiser license in Kansas, you will need to complete 28 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. Of the 28 hours, a minimum of 14 hours must be completed in-person or through interactive online courses. The remaining 14 hours can be met through non-interactive distance learning, such as webinars, audio conferences, and DVDs.
Appraisers in Kansas must complete a seven-hour USPAP course every five years to renew their license. USPAP is the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, which outlines the ethical and performance standards for appraisers. The seven-hour USPAP course can be completed in-person or online.
