While the team mainly struggled in their early years, they became successful once quarterback Len Dawson led the team to victory in Super Bowl IV and Super Bowl I. The Kansas City Chiefs have won eight AFC championships, including three consecutive appearances from 2018 to 2020. They have nineteen players inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including Dawson, linebacker Derrick Thomas, wide receiver Otis Taylor, running back Larry Johnson, and tight end Tony Gonzalez; and have had two head coaches inducted into the Hall of Fame: Hank Stram and Marv Levy.
