History
Kansas State University, commonly referred to as K-State, is a public research university in Manhattan, Kansas. It was founded in 1863 and is the oldest public university in the state of Kansas. The university is classified as one of 115 research universities with very high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

The conference is a product of a realignment plan that was approved on June 14, 2010 by the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. The realignment resulted in the merging of the former Big 12 North and Big 12 South divisions. Originally, the conference had twelve members; however, two teams have departed since its formation. Nebraska left to join the Big Ten Conference on July 1, 2011, while Colorado departed nine months later to join the Pac-12 Conference. Additionally, two new schools were added to the conference: TCU joined from the Mountain West Conference and West Virginia joined from the Big East Conference.

Kansas State men’s basketball is a Division I college basketball program competing in the Big 12 Conference. The team represents Kansas State University, located in Manhattan, Kansas. The team’s head coach is Bruce Weber. The program has appeared in twenty NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournaments and has an all-time tournament record of 27–21. Their most recent appearance came in 2017, when they defeated Wake Forest in the First Round before losing to UCLA in the Second Round. The program also has two conference tournament championships, with their most recent coming in 1980.
