Basehor is a city in Leavenworth County, Kansas, United States. The population was 4,613 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Basehor was founded in 1855 as a stop on the Fort Scott, Leavenworth & Western Railroad. The city was named for the Basehor family, who were among the first settlers in the area.

The first settlers of what would become Basehor were three families who arrived in the spring of 1854. A post office was established in May of that year with Levi Cooper as postmaster. Mr. Cooper also operated a store out of his home. Soon more families began moving into the area and by 1857 there were enough people to warrant the building of a schoolhouse. In those early days, life was not easy and the settlers had to be self-sufficient, producing nearly everything they needed themselves.

The Basehor community was named for Moses Basehor, an early settler from Virginia who arrived in 1854 with his wife Elizabeth and their nine children: John W., Abner B., Moses B., Jr., Amos B., Hiram B., Jacob B., Isaac B., and Margaret and Mary Ann Basehor, who were twins.
