Larned is located at 38°9′12″N 99°26′40″W / 38.15333°N 99.44444°W / 38.15333; -99.44444 (38.153285, -99.444456),[8] at an elevation of 2,134 feet (650 m).[2] It lies approximately halfway between Wichita to the southwest and Topeka to the northeast, on Interstate Highway 156 (the diagonal “Hays-Topeka Turnpike”).[9][10]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.01 square miles (7.78 km2), all of it land.[11] The community is on the west bank of the South Fork Solomon River near its confluence with Timpas Creek,[12][13] in southwestern Kansas in the Great Plains Wildlife Corridor.[14][15][16]
