While the team mainly struggled in their early years, they became successful once quarterback Len Dawson led them to victory in Super Bowl IV in 1970. From 2007 onwards however, Scott Pioli and Todd Haley led successful rebuilding projects that returned the Chiefs to being perennial playoff contenders; they made 9 playoff appearances from 2010 to 2019 inclusive with Haley being fired midway through his sixth season due to philosophical differences with Pioli
The Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV on February 2, 2020 against the San Francisco 49ers 54-51, giving them their first championship title since 1970 and first Super Bowl win ever.
