Vermeil retired permanently following that season He was replaced by offensive coordinator John Fox who had been hired away from New York Giants One year later Herm Edwards who had also served under Vermeil as offensive coordinator for two seasons replaced Fox Edwards would take them to playoffs twice during his tenure as head coach between 2006 and 2008 They would not make it past divisional round Edwards was fired after third consecutive losing season In January 2009 Scott Pioli former Patriots vice president of player personnel was hired as general manager Three weeks later Todd Haley who had served under Arians as Cardinals offensive coordinator replaced Edwards On January 4 2011 after finishing with a 10-6 record Haley was relieved of his head duties
