History

The Kansas Jayhawks, also known as KU, are a college basketball team that represents the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. The Jayhawks are a member of the Big 12 Conference and play their home games at Allen Fieldhouse. The team is currently coached by Bill Self and has an all-time record of 2,221-806.

The Jayhawks have made 27 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 14 Final Fours and 3 National Championships. They have also won 30 conference championships, including 13 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks’ most recent conference championship came in 2016 when they defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Tournament final.

Rivalries

While the Jayhawks don’t have any longtime traditional rivals, there are a few schools that have developed into rivals over the years. The most notable rivals are the Kansas State Wildcats, the Missouri Tigers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The rivalry with Kansas State is the longest-standing and most intense of the three. The two schools are separated by just over 100 miles, and fans of both teams are passionate about their schools. The Jayhawks and Wildcats have been playing each other since 1902, and the series is tied at 103-103.

The rivalry with Missouri is also a long-standing one, dating back to 1907. Missouri left the Big 12 Conference in 2012, but the two schools have continued to play each other every year. Missouri currently leads the series 171-154.

The rivalry with Nebraska dates back to 1912, but it has not been as intense as the other two rivals. Nebraska left the Big 12 Conference in 2011, but the two schools have continued to play each other every year. Nebraska currently leads the series 196-79-3.

The 2020-21 Kansas women’s basketball schedule was released Thursday afternoon by the Big 12 Conference. The Jayhawks will play a total of 18 conference games, nine at home and nine on the road.

Conference play is set to begin on Saturday, Jan. 2, at West Virginia and will conclude on Saturday, March 6, at home against TCU. Kansas will have two bye weeks during Big 12 play, Feb. 6-13 and Feb. 27-March 5.
