Hamlin began his racing career in Karting He won multiple championships in Late Models before moving up to what is now known as the NASCAR Xfinity Series where he won twice before earning a promotion to race part-time in what was then known as the Busch series which he won 4 times en route to his first championship victory at age 26 in 2006 making him one of only 4 drivers to win a title at that age or younger joining Bobby Allison Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott
