The University of Kansas
The University of Kansas, also referred to as KU, is a public research university with its main campus in Lawrence, Kansas, and several satellite campuses, research and educational centers, medical centers, and classes across the state. Chartered in 1866 by Kansas Governor Thomas Carney and inaugurated in 1869, KU is one of the oldest public universities in the American West and one of the first 35 public institutions of higher learning established in the United States. The university is organized into fourteen schools and colleges with five major academic branches: the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Architecture & Design, and School of Law.
KU is a large-scale research university with more than $650 million in research expenditures annually. KU’s research programs are conducted through its Medical Center—which includes two campuses on opposite sides of Kansas City—and various specialized research institutes throughout the state. The Hatch Act of 1887 placed KU under the authority of the board of regents of the State Agricultural College and Model Farm; however, control over KU was returned to independent peace-time regents by an amendment to that act in 1895.

The University of Kansas, located in Lawrence, Kansas, is a public research university with approximately 27,000 students enrolled. The Jayhawks compete in the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference.
KU Men’s Basketball
The Jayhawks men’s basketball program is the intercollegiate men’s basketball program of the University of Kansas. The program is classified in the NCAA’s Division I and the team competes in the Big 12 Conference. The Jayhawks’ home court is Allen Fieldhouse, which is located on Kansas’ campus in Lawrence, and the Jayhawks have won five NCAA championships (1952, 1988, 2008, 2012, and 2018).
