The Chiefs join the NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs were founded in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). The team was originally based in Dallas, but relocated to Kansas City before the start of the 1963 season.

The Chiefs quickly became one of the most successful teams in the AFL, winning the championship in 1962 and 1967. When the AFL and NFL merged in 1970, the Chiefs were placed in the AFC West division.
