The Chiefs began play in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, an expansion team of the American Football League (AFL). They were owned by Lamar Hunt, who also owned the AFL’s Dallas Texans baseball team (now known as the Kansas City Royals).Hunt decided to move his football franchise to Kansas City and rename it after these OTHER Texans before their first season. He did so partially because leagues like Major League Baseball refused to allow franchise moves at that time unless ownership changed hands. Because of this, many people assume that Lamar Hunt intended to eventually create an NFL-AFL merger by moving one of his teams to Missouri since it would trigger a forced merge between the two leagues.
The Kansas City Royals will play the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, August 8th. The game will start at 7:10 PM CT and will be broadcast on FS1. The Royals are currently in 3rd place in the AL Central with a record of 57-58. The White Sox are in last place with a record of 45-70.
