The Chiefs have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966, and 1969. They became the second AFL team (after the New York Jets) to defeat an NFL team in an AFL–NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The team’s victory on January 11, 1970,[8] remains the club’s last championship game victory and appearance to date, and occurred after they had moved from Kansas City to Dallas in 1963. The Chiefs were also victorious in Super Bowl LIV, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31–20 on February 2, 2020, for their first Super Bowl title since 1970 and their first NFL championship since 1969. However, since that time they have made three trips to the AFC Championship game without winning (in 1971 turnovers cost them a trip to Super Bowl VI[9], while one play – “The fumble” – kept them out of Super Bowl XIV[10]). Between 1995 and 2016 they appeared in six AFC Championship Games but did not win any of them.[11][12]
