Enterprise is a city located in the western United States, in the state of Kansas. The city is situated in the heart of the state, in the county of Dickinson. Enterprise is located near the cities of Wichita and Salina.

History of Enterprise

Enterprise was founded in 1857
Enterprise was founded in 1857 by a group of settlers from Eastern Kansas. The town was named after the nearby Enterprise Mine, which was one of the first mines in the area. Enterprise quickly became a thriving mining town, and by the early 1860s it was one of the largest towns in Kansas.
However, the Enterprise Mine was destroyed by a flood in 1865, and the town went into decline. By the early 1900s, Enterprise was a virtual ghost town, with only a few dozen residents remaining.
In recent years, Enterprise has been undergoing something of a rebirth, thanks to its growing popularity as a tourist destination. The town now has several bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and shops, and its population has grown to over 200.
Enterprise was named after the USS Enterprise
It is unknown when the first settlers arrived in what is now Enterprise, but the first recorded settler was Hiram Wilcox, who claimed land in the area in 1854. Early enterprise was a stop on the Santa Fe Trail. It wasn’t until the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway came through in 1879 that enterprise really began to grow. The town was officially incorporated in 1880.
The town’s name comes from the USS Enterprise, which was part of Commodore Perry’s fleet that sailed to Japan in 1853. Perry named his ship after his family’s motto, “Enterprise.”
