Enterprise was founded in 1857
Enterprise was founded in 1857 by a group of settlers from Eastern Kansas. The town was named after the nearby Enterprise Mine, which was one of the first mines in the area. Enterprise quickly became a thriving mining town, and by the early 1860s it was one of the largest towns in Kansas.
However, the Enterprise Mine was destroyed by a flood in 1865, and the town went into decline. By the early 1900s, Enterprise was a virtual ghost town, with only a few dozen residents remaining.
