Kansas State University was founded in 1863 as the state’s land-grant institution of higher learning. It was initially established as Kansas State Agricultural College, and its mission was to teach practical farming and mechanical arts to young men. Today, the university has evolved into a leading research institution with an enrollment of more than 24,000 students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
When it became a university
Kansas State University was founded in 1863 as the state’s land-grant university. The school began as a normal school (a teacher’s training school) and then became an agricultural college and experiment station. In 1957, the name of the school was changed to Kansas State University of Agriculture and Applied Science. In 1963, the name was again changed, this time to Kansas State University.

There are many different types of housing available to students at Kansas State University.

The university’s food service is managed by Sodexo and offers a variety of dining options for students, faculty, and staff. All of the dining halls on campus are all-you-can-eat style, and there are also several grab-and-go dining options available. For those with special dietary needs, Sodexo offers a variety of gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options.
