The Alamodome is a domed 65,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in San Antonio, Texas. It opened on May 15, 1993, having been constructed at a cost of $186 million. The facility was intended to increase the city’s convention traffic and attract a professional football franchise. It also placated the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and Rodeo (SALR) which was about to lose its lease on the Stout system at the HemisFair Arena.
The Alamodome’s construction was completed in July 1993, in time for the SALR’s final season in that facility. The Dome subsequently became home to the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1993 to 2002, when they moved to the SBC Center (now AT&T Center) because of a dispute over costs and rental fees.
The Jayhawks are the No. 1 seed in the South region, while the Wildcats are the No. 2 seed in the East region.
