FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, was founded in 1932 to govern international competition. The first FIBA World Championship for Men was held in Argentina in 1950.
The game quickly gains popularity

Interestingly, both of these early college basketball games were played using the so-called “Kansas rules.” These rules had been developed by Dr. Naismith while he was working at a YMCA in Topeka, Kansas from 1898 to 1899. It wasn’t until after he had moved to Springfield that he developed the now-famous 13 rules of basketball.
So, while basketball may have been invented in Massachusetts, it seems that the sport has its earliest roots in Kansas.
The game becomes popular in Kansas
