Who Are the Kansas Senators?

Jerry Moran

Jerry Moran is a United States Senator from Kansas. A Republican, he served as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee from 2011 to 2015. First elected to the Senate in 2010, he defeated Democrat Lisa Johnston in the general election.

Background

Jerry Moran was born in Great Bend, Kansas, on May 29, 1954. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1976 and from its law school in 1978. Prior to his election to the Senate, Moran served as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 1981 to 1987 and the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2011. He was first elected to the Senate in 2010 and was reelected in 2016.

Pat Roberts has been a U.S. senator from Kansas since 1997. He is a member of the Republican Party. Prior to serving in the Senate, Roberts was a U.S. representative from Kansas’ 1st congressional district (1981-1997).

Positions

Roberts is a member of the Republican Party. He has been the Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee since January 2015. He also served as the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee from 1997 to 2001.

Voting Record

Pat Roberts has been a reliable Republican vote in the Senate, voting with his party 92% of the time. He has voted in favor of bills to repeal the Affordable Care Act, allow states to defund Planned Parenthood, and make it harder for immigrants to obtain asylum in the United States. He also voted in favor of President Trump’s tax cuts.
