The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, and assumed its current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion. Hunt’s son, Clark, serves as chairman and CEO. While fan support has fluctuated over the years, the majority of season ticket holders have been loyal since 1994 when then-owner Lamar Hunt gained control of long-term stadium lease arrangements with Jackson County, Missouri which runs until 2031 thereby insulating the team from threats of relocation; fans sometimes refer to Arrowhead Stadium as “Home of the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs”.

The Chiefs have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966, and 1969. They became the second AFL team (after the New York Jets) to defeat an NFL team in an AFC–NFC Championship Game, when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings 51–10 in Super Bowl IV. The team’s victory on January 11, 1970 remains the club’s last championship game victory and appearance to date. In their 55 seasons to date since 1960, the franchise has compiled a regular season record of 500 wins and 423 losses (a winning percentage of .542), with 19 postseason victories and 26 defeats (a winning percentage of .422). Their five AFC Championship Game appearances are tied for sixth most among active franchises; their ten AFC West Divisional titles are most among current members of that division; their twenty-three playoff games rank eleventh among all franchises;and despite having played only fifty regular season games compared to sixty-four by his father’s former AFL franchise – now known asTennessee Titans – Clark Hunt has said that he “wouldn’t trade places with any other franchise” including those who have played far more games than his own franchise has. Through Week 8 of 2018 season, they had reached 500 wins faster than any other NFL franchise except forthe Chicago Bears who did it in 499 games.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Rivals

The Chiefs have a heated rivalry with the Oakland Raiders, which is often referred to as the “Border War.” The two teams have played each other twice a year since 1960, and the Chiefs have dominated the series, winning 59 percent of the games.

The Chiefs also have strong rivalries with the Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers. The Broncos rivalry is relatively new, as the two teams only began playing each other in 1960. However, the Chiefs have won 21 of the 32 games between these two AFC West rivals.

The Chargers rivalry dates back to when both teams were members of the AFL. The Chargers lead the all-time series between these two teams 57-54-1, but the Chiefs have won nine of the last 10 games.

In conclusion, the Kansas City Chiefs play the Denver Broncos next. This will be a tough matchup, but the Chiefs have proved they are up for the challenge. Be sure to catch the game and root for your team!
