The Chiefs have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966, and 1969. They became the second AFL team (after the New York Jets) to defeat an NFL team in an AFL–NFL World Championship Game when they defeated Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The team’s victory on January 11, 1970, remains the club’s last championship game victory and appearance to date, and occurred in what was then considered Lambeau Field’s second incarnation Stadium during construction of an expansion that would double its capacity by September 1970 for Super Bowl V between the AFC Champion Baltimore Colts and NFC Champion Dallas Cowboys—a game that ultimately resulted in a 16–13 victory for Baltimore due to a last-minute field goal by Colts placekicker Jim O’Brien with five seconds left to play—making them also just one of two teams (the other being Green Bay Packers) that have won both an AFL title prior toSuper Bowl II (which they did on January 15th of that year by defeating Oakland Raiders), then later captured an NFL title within said Stadium after its most recent major expansion took place.
