Who Kansas City Could Play
The Kansas City Chiefs have clinched the AFC West division and are currently in the hunt for the top seed in the AFC playoffs. They are fighting with the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers for that coveted spot.
If the season were to end today, the Chiefs would be the No. 3 seed and would play the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. But, with two games left to play, there is still a lot that could change.
Let’s take a look at who Kansas City could potentially play in the playoffs and how their chances of winning each matchup stack up.
Houston Texans (Wild Card) – The Chiefs have already beaten the Texans once this season, but that was back in Week 6 when they were a different team. The Texans are currently on a nine-game winning streak and have one of the best defenses in the league. The Chiefs’ offense will have their work cut out for them, but if they can put up points, they should be able to win this game.
Prediction: Chiefs win 27-24
New England Patriots (Divisional Round) – The Patriots are always a tough team to beat, especially in Foxborough. But, the Chiefs proved earlier this season that they can hang with them when they lost 42-27 in New England back in Week 1. The Patriots offense is clicking right now, but so is the Chiefs’. This would be a close game, but we think the Chiefs would come out on top.
Prediction: Chiefs win 31-28
Pittsburgh Steelers (AFC Championship) – These two teams played each other earlier this season in Pittsburgh and it was a close game with the Steelers coming out on top 19-13. The Steelers have one of the best offenses in football, led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown. The Chiefs’ defense will need to step up if they want to win this game.
Prediction: Steelers win 24-20

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion. Hunt’s son, Clark, serves as chairman and CEO.
The Chiefs have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966, and 1969. They became the second AFL team (after the New York Jets) to defeat an NFL team in an AFL–NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The team’s victory on January 11, 1970, remains the club’s last championship game victory and appearance to date. Between 1995 and 2016, the franchise appeared in seven AFC Championship Games but never advanced to the Super Bowl. In that same period, they qualified to play in fourteen AFC Divisional Playoff games but lost ten of those games by a combined scoreline of 357–151.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a bye this week, which means they’ll be resting up and preparing for their next opponent. But who have they faced so far in the playoffs? Let’s take a look at their previous opponents.
In the Wild Card round, the Chiefs faced the Houston Texans. The Texans put up a fight, but ultimately fell to the Chiefs by a score of 31-14. In the Divisional round, the Chiefs faced the Cleveland Browns. The Browns gave them a bit more of a challenge, but the Chiefs still came out on top by a score of 22-17. Lastly, in the Conference Championship, the Chiefs faced the Buffalo Bills. The Bills managed to keep it close, but once again, the Chiefs came out victorious by a score of 38-24.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs. The game is set to take place on Sunday, January 12th at 1:05pm EST at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season, with the Chiefs winning the first matchup 38-28 back in Week 11.
Kansas City’s Chances
The Kansas City Chiefs have a good chance of winning the AFC West this year. They have a 10-6 record, which is second in the division behind the Los Angeles Chargers (11-5). The Chiefs have a bye in the first round of the playoffs, which means they will automatically advance to the divisional round. In the divisional round, they will play the winner of the Wild Card game between the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Colts in Indianapolis in Week 16, so they will have a good idea of what to expect if they end up playing them in the playoffs.
