The Chiefs have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966, and 1969. They became the second AFL team (after the New York Jets) to defeat an NFL team in an AFL–NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The team’s victory on January 11, 1970, remains the club’s last championship game victory and appearance to date. Between 1995 and 2016, the franchise appeared in six AFC Championship Games but failed to win one. They lost to the Green Bay Packers twice (1995 and 1997), Denver Broncos three times (1986, 1987, and 1998), and New England Patriots twice (2016 and 2018). In 2019, after 52 years without appearing in a conference championship game or Super Bowl, they defeated Tennessee Titans 22–21 to earn their first trip to the Super Bowl since 1970; however they ultimately lost 13–31 to eventual champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV on February 7th 2020.

Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967.
The name “Saints” is an allusion to November 1 being All Saints Day in the Catholic faith, or a reference to the members of the long-defunct Houston Oilers who came to New Orleans following that franchise’s collapse after the 1965 AFL–NFL merger. The franchise was awarded an expansion team later that year on October 17, 1966. Their proposed nickname was the Limpets, but this was not received well by fans. However, on November 1, both newspapers arrived at the same conclusion: Saints was perfect.
The team’s primary colors are old gold and black; their logo depicts a simple fleur-de-lis. They played their home games in Tulane Stadium through the 1970 season. They played their next 27 (including playoffs) home games from 1971–1974 at Louisiana Superdome, which officially opened on August 3, 1975.[10] During the press conference announcing Williams as head coach and general manager, he announced that they would play all their home games at night during prime time because it gave them a national audience every week. The Superdome gained international recognition of its own in Kaufman’s film Black Sunday where terrorists blow up a good portion of it during a Super Bowl broadcast
