Kansas will be electing a new governor in 2018, as current Governor Sam Brownback is term-limited and cannot run for reelection. As of June 2017, there are six declared candidates for the office of Governor of Kansas. These candidates are: Jeff Colyer, Ken Selzer, Mark Hutton, Greg Orman, Ed O’Malley, and Patrick Kucera.
Democrat
Democrat-
David Orman- A small business owner from Wichita, Mr. Orman is a moderate Democrat who has been critical of some of the party’s more progressive initiatives. He has the backing of former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and many in the business community.
Robert Dunham- A lawyer and former Marine from Kansas City, Mr. Dunham is a progressive Democrat who is running on a platform of expanding access to health care and education. He has the endorsement of U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Arden Anderson- A teacher from Topeka, Ms. Anderson is a progressive Democrat who is running on a platform of expanding access to health care and education. She has the endorsement of the Kansas National Education Association.
Republican
