The Governor of Kansas is the chief executive of the state of Kansas. The Governor is elected every four years by a majority of the people in the state and serves a four-year term. The current Governor of Kansas is Jeff Colyer, who was sworn in on January 8, 2018.
Early Life and Education
Kelly was born in Topeka, Kansas, on May 5, 1961, the daughter of Carolyn and Allan Kelly. She attended the independent Notre Dame High School. She then received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 1983. She earned her Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 1986.
Sam Brownback is an American politician who has been Governor of Kansas since January 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party. Prior to his election as governor, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 1996 and in the U.S. Senate from 1996 to 2011.
Brownback was born in Garnett, Kansas, on September 12, 1956. He graduated from Kansas State University with a B.A. in agricultural economics in 1978 and received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1982. He then worked as an attorney in Manhattan, Kansas, before becoming special assistant attorney general of Kansas in 1986.
In 1994, Brownback was elected to the U.S House of Representatives, representing Kansas’ 2nd congressional district. He served one term before being elected to the U.S Senate in 1996. He was reelected to the Senate in 2002 and again in 2008.
Sam Brownback was born on September 12, 1956, in Garnett, KS. He was the only child of Kenneth and Nancy (Koch) Brownback. His father ran a construction company, while his mother stayed at home to raise him. When he was young, his family moved around Kansas a lot because of his father’s job. He attended fourteen different schools before graduating from high school.
Brownback is married to Mary Stauffer Brownback, with whom he has five children: Abbey, Andy, Hannah, Liza, and Mark.
