The first successful season for the franchise came in 1966 which culminated with a victory in Super Bowl I. Between 1971 and 1997, the team appeared in the playoffs a total of 14 times but never managed to return to the Super Bowl. In 2019, they finally made it back to football’s biggest stage and won Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.

They were known as the Missouri Mavericks until 2017, when they changed their name to the Kansas City Mavericks.
The team made history on June 6, 2016, when they won their first ECHL Kelly Cup championship as they defeated the Allen Americans four games to two in front of a sell-out crowd at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
