The Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team defeated the Miami Hurricanes on March 2nd, 2020. The Jayhawks have now won 14 straight games, dating back to February 8th. This is the Jayhawks’ longest winning streak since the 2008-2009 season.
The Jayhawks outscored the Hurricanes 13-3 in the fourth quarter to finish with a 58-57 victory. Kansas had a 17-point lead in the second half, but Miami went on a 21-4 run to take a 57-56 lead with 4:09 left in the game.
The Jayhawks entered the game as one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 13 straight games dating back to their last loss on December 10th. The Jayhawks were also coming off of an impressive win over then-No. 2 Baylor, a game in which they had led by as many as 22 points.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, had lost two of their last three games and were in danger of falling out of the Top 25 altogether. Miami was also playing without one of its best players, guard Michael Frazier, who was sidelined with a concussion.
Despite all of this, the Hurricanes came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to an early lead. The Jayhawks eventually settled down and took a slim lead into halftime.
In the second half, it was more of the same back-and-forth action. Neither team could gain much separation from the other, and it came down to the wire.
With just seconds remaining andthe Jayhawks up by two, Miami’s Ja’Quan Newton drove to the basket for what looked like the go-ahead layup. But Kansas’ Landen Lucas came up with a huge block to preserve the win for his team.
The final score was Kansas 60, Miami 57.
The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 24-0 on Saturday in Hard Rock Stadium. This was the Jayhawks’ first shutout loss since 1995.

The Kansas Miami game was a close one, with the Jayhawks winning by just two points. But it was a big win for Kansas, as it helped them move up to second place in the conference standings. Miami had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but their shot went wide.
